Tens of thousands of commuters and visitors come into the city center daily. Downtown Minneapolis is the most popular transit destination. The Twin Cities region has five public transit authorities, and they all have routes that serve downtown Minneapolis. A shared fare system makes payment seamless with a Go To, Metropass, TAP, or student/college pass regardless of which bus is taken.

Metro Transit

Metro Transit has the largest territory with service covering all of Hennepin and Ramsey counties and parts of Sherburne, Anoka, Washington, and Dakota counties.The transit system includes fixed route buses, express buses, bus rapid transit (BRT), light rail (LRT), commuter rail, and microtransit service called Micro. Commuters can also use a series of park & ride and transit center locations to park for free and use transit to ride downtown.

Minnesota Valley Transit Authority

Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) serves the communities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Rosemount, Savage, and Shakopee with 25 local and express bus routes. Three MVTA express routes serve downtown Minneapolis including Shakopee, Burnsville, and Apple Valley/Rosemount/Eagan. MVTA operates 11 park & ride locations within their region and a micro-transit service called Connect

SouthWest Transit

SouthWest Transit serves communities in the west Metro, including Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Chaska, Carver, and Victoria. SouthWest Transit offers seven park & ride locations and six express bus routes going into downtown Monday – Friday. SouthWest Prime, the region’s first micro-transit service, operates in those same communities. 

Plymouth Metrolink

Plymouth Metrolink has local routes in Plymouth and express buses to downtown Minneapolis and the U of M campus. They operate five park & ride locations with six express routes going downtown Monday – Friday including one reverse commute route that starts downtown. Plymouth operates a micro-transit fleet called Click-N-Ride.

Maple Grove Transit

Maple Grove Transit serves Maple Grove with local routes and express bus service to downtown Minneapolis and the U of M campus. They operate two park & ride locations with three express routes going downtown Monday – Friday. Maple Grove operates a micro-transit service called My Ride
