Car share members enjoy convenient, short-term trips to a fleet of safe and efficient vehicles in locations around the Twin Cities. For individuals it’s like having the benefits of a car without the expense and hassles of owning one. For employers it’s like having access to a fleet of company cars without the high leasing costs, maintenance contract, and large garage space.
Cars are reserved via app or online and rented by the minute, hour or day (depending on the service). Membership and mileage fees are a fraction of ownership costs and include gas/charging, insurance and maintenance. Car sharing is a great way to live a car-lite lifestyle. Two-car families can go down to one car. Individuals with good transit options can forgo owning a car and just use carsharing for those occasions when a vehicle is needed. HOURCAR is a Minnesota nonprofit car-sharing organization with a fleet of vehicles in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul area in addition to Rochester, MN. HOURCAR’s Multifamliy Program has 50 EV-vehicles at 25 local housing projects. HOURCAR operates Evie Carshare, an all-electric, free-floating service that is part of the EV Spot Network. Evie’s fleet includes 150 all-electric, free-floating, renewably-powered vehicles that are a part of the EV Spot Network.
