505 Nicollet Mall, the corner of the old Neiman Marcus department store location, is currently under wraps as construction crews hang drywall and install fixtures. The future home of the yet-to-be-named Minneapolis visitor center is taking shape. This prime downtown space, located within CenterPoint Energy’s new regional office building, will be shared by Meet Minneapolis, Commuter Connection along with a store operated by St Croix Promotions & Retail. The visitor center’s huge floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto Nicollet Mall and the busiest LRT station on either line.
When the doors open sometime this October, customers will be able to purchase transit passes, register car pools, get a bicycle ZAP tagged, inquire about upcoming Minneapolis events, pick up visitor maps and purchase Minnesota themed gifts – all under one roof. During the construction, Commuter Connection remains open at the current US Bank Plaza location through September. Meet Minneapolis retains their offices at 250 Marquette Ave S while adding their footprint to the visitor center. St Croix Promotions and Retail, who also operate retail stores at the airport and Mall of America, will manage the retail store. Stay tuned for more updates and a grand opening date.

For the past five years, streets in Minneapolis have transformed to allow residents to experience their city in a whole new way — by bike, by skateboard, on roller skates. It’s called Open Streets Minneapolis, and it has grown from one event in 2011 to eight in 2015 events all across the city!
This Sunday, August 23rd will see Open Street in downtown Minneapolis following the length of 1st Ave North in the Warehouse District and then turning north up Washington Avenue into the North Loop. Car traffic is diverted from 11am – 5pm. Open Streets moves to the University of Minnesota on Saturday, September 12th when school is back in session.
Open Streets Minneapolis is the perfect chance to promote healthy living, local businesses, sustainable transportation and civic pride in Minneapolis. Open Streets creates miles of safe, car-free streets so that residents of all ages can walk, bike, shop, participate in spontaneous play activities, and get to know one another.
Check out Open Streets in your neighborhood, and enjoy it from a different perspective. Come wander the Open Streets and have some fun! You can even bring your dog.
And of course, it’s free!
The University of Minnesota and MnDOT need to hear from you! They are studying the health and economic impacts of cycling and are surveying adult cyclists living in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. If you decide to participate in the study, you will complete a short questionnaire about your cycling habits and health history. Three eligible participants will be RANDOMLY selected to win a $100 Visa Gift Card! Participation is voluntary, but surveys must be completed by September 30, 2015. The survey can be accessed at https://umn.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_b9Rd09F2HmUqduJ
Congratulations going out to Kevyn B., the grand prize winner of the Dero Rainbow Bike Rack from a drawing of entries at Pride Twin Cities 2015. Kevyn will put the bike rack to good use! The bike rack will be installed in front of multi-family building where she lives in the Marcy Holmes neighborhood. There are a number of cyclists in her building but, until now, they did not have a community bike rack.
