The 2014 Minneapolis Bike Tour starts/ends at Boom Island on Sunday, Sept. 14. Registration from 6:30-8AM, tour begins at 8AM. The recreational bike tour for all ages and abilities spans the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway System. Proceeds from the Minneapolis BikeTour will benefit bike safety events for Minneapolis youth as well as bike trail improvement projects.
There will be three routes to participate in, 16-mile, 25-mile and 32-mile, and they are closed to motorized traffic. All routes include stops with refreshments and bike mechanics. Stick around after the ride to enjoy LIVE music, beer available to participants 21+ (must show ID), food from local vendors, exhibitor booths and Bike Tour merchandise for sale!
What Is Rail~Volution?
As a learning network, Rail~Volution brings together people who are passionate about building livable communities with transit. Rail~Volution is; a movement, a network, an event. This year’s Rail~Volution Conference comes to Minnesota and is hosted at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis from September 21-24.
Rail~Volution is a non-profit organization that is the intersection of transit, livable communities and transit-oriented development. Rail~Volution promotes engagement with communities, provides tools for advocates and elected officials, facilitates opportunities and new contacts.
Rail~Volution is committed to building livable cities and regions with transit. The focus is on sensible, real-world-tested, effective approaches that improve the way people live, work and travel. ZAP Quest is a Twin Cities-wide scavenger hunt, to coincide with the St. Paul Open Streets taking place Sunday, September 21st. RSVP to reserve your spot. Riders receive a scavenge list and map to hunt along miles of bike paths. Your bike not yet Zap tagged? Zap tags are provided at the starting area.
Space is limited, RSVP today. The scavenger hunt starts at the Dero Bike Rack Company, 504 Malcom Ave SE in Minneapolis (between U of M’s TCF Stadium and Hwy 280, just off the Greenline). Registration and Zap tagging is at 10:00am. The hunt starts 11:00am and finishes at 3:00pm at St. Paul Open Streets event on Lexington and University Ave. The rewards ceremony is at 3:30pm and you must be present to win.
The Metropolitan Council has released a draft version of the 2040 Transportation Policy Plan (TPP) for public comment. The plan sets policies for the regional transportation system based on the goals and objectives in Thrive MSP 2040 the region’s development guide.
A public hearing on the draft plan is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 5pm at the Metropolitan Council Chambers, 390 Robert Street North, Saint Paul, MN 55101.
Draft TPP Workshops are taking place through September 25. Join transportation planners and policymakers at one of 10 upcoming workshops to learn about and comment on the Draft TPP. Attention Minneapolis carpoolers! Park for FREE every Wednesday in September. Carpool Wednesdays are valid at the downtown Ramps A & B. Drive with a buddy or two, enter the carpool lanes at A or B Ramps between 6-930am every Wed. in September, and park for FREE!

Thursday, Oct 2 celebrate the “Power of Ideas” at the launch event for the Minneapolis Idea eXchange.
The evening will feature the Theater of Public Policy and speaker Barry Kudrowitz, assistant professor of product design at the University of Minnesota. Barry will speak to the importance of using a creative design process and improvisation and idea generation relate.
As a follow up to this event, the Minneapolis Downtown Council will be hosting a 3-day ideas festival in 2015. The Minneapolis Idea eXchange will be an opportunity to gather community members with local and national thought leaders to inspire new ideas in order to improve our community and quality of life.
