Join Bikefun at the kick-off bike parade on Tuesday, July 15th in Gold Medal park at 5pm ending with a potluck barbeque at Powderhorn park. Spend the next five days taking part in creative rides community members have thought up. Information about those rides can be found here. Pedalopolis ends with a Short Jorts dance part at 9 p.m. on July 20th at the Bedlam Lowertown.
The “Tour De Fat” returns to Loring Park Saturday, July 26 with its version of beer-fueled two-wheeled circus. While the event is focused on the immense bike culture within the Twin Cities, sponsorship from New Belgium Brewing Company ensures plenty of “bemusement.” Activities include a costume fashion show, a slow ride race, and a 1,000-person dance contest! One lucky rust-bucket owner will be awarded a new bike by pledging to go car-free for a year. There will also be live music, food trucks, and Belgium’s taps as far as the eye can see. Did I mention admission to this event is free?
The historic Trench that dissects the East Bank campus from Dinkytown for the Northern Pacific railroad right-of-way has been transformed into the Dinkytown Greenway. It took two decades to stitch together the 3/4 mile section of trail that connects TCF Stadium in Stadium Village with Gold Medal Park next to the Guthrie Theater. The new bikeway serves as a lighted, car-free expressway between downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota East Bank. It boasts one of the most spectacular views of downtown when crossing the Mississippi high up on old Bridge Number 9. This is a key link in the extensive and growing Twin Cities bike trail network.
Celebrate the trail opening Sunday, July 20 for the ribbon cutting ceremony at Dinkytown Greenway – Phase 3.
Event Details: Sunday, July 20
Twin Cities local car share company, HOURCAR , has expanded their fleet this year to 73 vehicles. They are proud to announce that 11 new sites are now housing HOURCAR vehicles as of June 20. Those new locations include along the Green Line light rail train, within the Lake Street Corridor, in Northeast Minneapolis, and in the Whittier neighborhood. Information about membership, rates, and locations can be found here.
Commuter Connection in partnership with Minneapolis Parking is providing some great benefits for carpoolers driving downtown from I-394 or I-94 coming from the West or Northwest Twin Cities. Not only do they get to zip past traffic jams in the HOV lanes, but can park downtown in the ABC Ramps for as low as $20 per month. With all the harm caused by driving, like gridlock, traffic, and harm to the environment – why not start a carpool and save money while doing some good for the city? See http://carpool.mplsparking.com/ for information on how to register your carpool.
